Also, only the registered version allows you to:Buy options on stocks (puts & calls);Make short sales of stock or options; Enter into interest rate "swaps" (derivativescontracts whose terms you cook up yourself, as "bets" on the direction of various interest rates); Cheat (more than once), by using "inside information" or tips on upcoming mergers or other events that will greatly affect a stock's price (the shareware version allows only one such illicit tip per game); andView stock charts, which go back 5 years for eachcompany in the simulation (based on prices that occur in thesimulation, not real world prices, for the companies in question -- this IS a simulation, after all, not real-world stock trading, though it may seem real at times). To see details of recent Wall Street Raider updates, click here.** Note: The current Windows version of W$R is Version 9.75. A further encouragement for the adoption of algorithmic trading in the financial markets came in 2001 when a team of IBM researchers published a paper[16] at the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence where they showed that in experimental laboratory versions of the electronic auctions used in the financial markets, two algorithmic strategies (IBM's own MGD, and Hewlett-Packard's ZIP) could consistently out-perform human traders. MGD was a modified version of the "GD" algorithm invented by Steven Gjerstad & John Dickhaut in 1996/7;[17] the ZIP algorithm had been invented at HP by Dave Cliff (professor) in 1996.[18] In their paper, the IBM team wrote that the financial impact of their results showing MGD and ZIP outperforming human traders "...might be measured in billions of dollars annually"; the IBM paper generated international media coverage.
Most of the algorithmic strategies are implemented using modern programming languages, although some still implement strategies designed in spreadsheets. Increasingly, the algorithms used by large brokerages and asset managers are written to the FIX Protocol's Algorithmic Trading Definition Language (FIXatdl), which allows firms receiving orders to specify exactly how their electronic orders should be expressed. Orders built using FIXatdl can then be transmitted from traders' systems via the FIX Protocol.[74] Basic models can rely on as little as a linear regression, while more complex game-theoretic and pattern recognition[75] or predictive models can also be used to initiate trading. More complex methods such as Markov chain Monte Carlo have been used to create these models.[citation needed]
Games are a familiar product for Microsoft. In addition to the whole Xbox franchise, which launched in 2001, the company has a host of ways to play casual games. The classic Klondike game, for example, is part of the Microsoft Solitaire Collection app for Windows.
As part of its new release, Microsoft is also bringing a mobile-friendly game called Wordament to Teams. The Boggle-like game appeared in 2011 after Microsoft asked employees to build Windows Phone apps in their free time, leading two staffers to devise the game as something for them to play with their wives. The game, which challenges players to spot words among a grid of letters, has racked up 1 million downloads on Android.
